Among the many solutions that Pepperl+Fuchs manufactures is its line of VisuNet HMI workstations and monitors. This family of products, available in Canada from Process Instruments and Components Inc. (PIC), includes updated firmware that supports a management tool that allows users to view and remotely control multiple workstations from one device.
The VisuNet RM Shell 4.1.0 supports the VisuNet Control Centre, a tool that centralizes control and management of thin client-based VisuNet remote monitors throughout a process plant.
A number of major advantages
As firmware for Pepperl+Fuchs’ remote monitor HMI systems, the RM Shell 4.1.0 also enables shadowing, plus remote functions like setup and configuration of profiles, firmware updates, restarts, shutdown, and real-time monitoring.
Investing in the RM Shell 4.1.0 yields a number of major advantages for businesses. One of these is ease of use. The 4.1.0 has a simple touchscreen interface, Windows Embedded Standard 7, and plug-and-play start-up capabilities. It also supports common connection protocols, such as Microsoft RDP 8.0 and VNC. The auto-connect feature, backup connections, and connection-loss detection all enable the RM Shell 4.1.0 to connect automatically to a host system following start-up and to reconnect automatically to a host after it detects signal loss.
Another important benefit of this tool is security. Pepperl+Fuchs has embedded the 4.1.0 with the highest security features available on the market, such as Microsoft Enhanced Write Filter mechanisms, a built-in firewall, a USB lockdown, and an optional restricted web browser. This firmware also enables multiple password-protected user roles that support critical system settings to be changed only by authorized engineers or administrators, which increases the security of the system even further.
A third key advantage of the 4.1.0 is that it is easily accessible. This tool comes preloaded on all Pepperl+Fuchs thin client-based products. A downloadable upgrade is available for free to current users of the VisuNet RM Shell 4.0.
PIC also supplies several different designs of VisuNet workstations – like EX1, GMP, XT, IND, and Edge – plus a variety of mounting options and peripherals. This equipment is designed to meet the standards of real-time process control.
