Pepperl+Fuchs has updated its firmware to support a new management tool that enables users to view and remotely control multiple workstations throughout the facility from a single PC or notebook.
VisuNet RM Shell 4.1.0, the company’s firmware for its remote monitor HMI systems, has been enhanced to support Pepperl+Fuchs’ new VisuNet Control Centre — a new tool that centralizes the control and management of thin client-based VisuNet Remote Monitors within a process plant. The control centre enables shadowing, as well as remote functions such as setup and configuration of profiles, firmware updates, restarts, shutdown and real-time monitoring.
RM Shell 4.1.0 offers several benefits to users, including:
- Easy to use: It offers a simple touchscreen interface, Windows Embedded Standard 7, and plug-and-play startup capabilities. RM Shell 4.1.0 supports common connection protocols, including Microsoft RDP 8.0 and VNC. With the auto-connect feature, backup connections and connection-loss detection, the RM Shell 4.1.0 automatically connects to a host system after startup, and will automatically reconnect to a host after detecting a signal loss.
- Secure: It is embedded with the highest security features available, including Microsoft Enhanced Write Filter mechanisms, a built-in firewall, a USB lockdown and an optional restricted web browser. The firmware allows multiple password-protected user roles that support critical system settings to be modified only by authorized engineers or administrators, further increasing the security of the system.
- Easy to access: The firmware comes preloaded on all Pepperl+Fuchs thin client-based products. A downloadable upgrade is available at no charge to current users of VisuNet RM Shell 4.0.
