The Toronto Transit Commission needed additional office space to accommodate its growing maintenance division, so it turned to Provincial Partitions for help.
The new office space would be located in a prime area along the Toronto waterfront, so it was determined that the design be consistent with the pre-existing look and feel of the buildings already in place.
Provincial Partitions constructed a two-storey, modular solution off-site first, then later craned it into place. The open concept office area was carpeted from wall to wall, enabling installation of the clients’ own office dividers. Additionally, high performance, energy-efficient Azuria tinted glass was used.
Provincial Partitions’ proprietary PROKIT steel framing was used throughout the building. Its decision to use steel is consistent with a corporate mandate to provide “green” building innovations for its entire customer base.
The steel advantage
Steel is 100 per cent recyclable, which makes PROKIT a sustainable building method that uses environmentally responsible products.
One of the most obvious advantages to using steel pre-framed solutions is that the speed of onsite construction can be reduced by as much as 80 per cent. Additional advantages to using steel are:
- Fire resistant;
- Rust-proof galvanized;
- Non-toxic and allergy-free;
- Superior energy efficiency;
- No shrinking or warping studs;
- Straight walls and square corners;
- No risk of termite damage;
- Smaller site crews required;
- Cleaner, safer job sites;
- Reduced scrap, loose materials and disposal costs;
- Withstands harsh climatic conditions; and
- No drywall screw popping or cracking.
