Provincial Partitions has long provided smoke shelters for a variety of clients, but when the Mississauga, Ont.-based company was approached to provide an oversized bike shelter for one of its repeat clients, the company welcomed the challenge — it would be the first shelter of its kind, and size, produced by Provincial Partitions.
As it turns out, it was easy to modify the smoke shelter design using standard modular components to provide exactly what the client was looking for in a bike shelter.
Measuring 18 by 30 feet, and providing space for as many as 48 bikes, the shelter was constructed using standard aluminum frames along with tempered glass. The light-gauge aluminum frame is corrosion resistant to salt and rust, and easily relocated should a move be necessary in the future.
Working closely with all trades, the concrete base was poured first, the shelter was installed next, and electrical was added last to provide lighting.
This shelter was done in conjunction with two other projects completed by Provincial Partitions at the same location. An elevated guard house was installed first, and a smoke shelter with the exact same dimensions as the bike shelter was also provided.
