Provincial Partitions believes an idea whose time has come is the use of shipping containers as modular units. The company’s line of PROFLEX units provides economical and efficient combined office/storage space solutions.
With more than 33 years in the modular industry, Provincial Partitions is especially well suited to modifying these containers. Potential uses for these buildings include: field offices, storage buildings, hazardous material storage, barracks and housing for relief efforts.
PROFLEX Containers make use of shipping containers as modular units. Because of the balance of trade worldwide, these durable steel boxes are readily available in North America. The combined office/storage space solutions enable the company to take advantage of this surplus, passing the savings on to its customers.
Below are some application examples:
Water treatment application
Provincial Partitions was able to supply four “ready-to-ship” PROFLEX containers to an engineering designer, manufacturer and solution provider for the water and wastewater treatment industry. Each container was modified to include standard and roll-up doors for easy access, HVAC, windows and mechanical tie-in for all utilities. Checker plate steel flooring and metal interior walls were used throughout. Transport to Africa was easily facilitated because these modified shipping containers are inherently designed for transport by truck, rail or ocean.
Mobile motor pool application
Design Gold Contracting saw the immediate advantages of these modular units and worked closely with Provincial Partitions to customize a unit to be used as a mobile motor pool for the Ontario Provincial Police. The finished unit contains two private offices, plus a storage section, and was shipped complete to the O.P.P. head office in Barrie, Ont.
Portable control room application
Needing a flexible and portable enclosure, a global energy services company with a focus on technology-based products and services for the pipeline and pipe services market saw the immediate benefits of the PROFLEX buildings. Providing a schematic to illustrate exactly how the building was to be incorporated into a prototype unit, Provincial Partitions customized a standard eight-foot by 40-foot container. The final collective assortment of easily transportable buildings were constructed to service and repair large oil rig drill-bits in a remote location in Mexico. The customized unit included a separate control room, along with a large frame opening, enabling seamless access to a separate machine room.
Provincial Partitions donated its very first prototype PROFLEX Container to support the relief efforts in Haiti. Additionally, by appealing to the company’s clients, suppliers, friends, staff and other individuals, the container portion of the unit was shipped filled to capacity with supplies. The unit shipped to Haiti was used as a combined office/storage structure.
Currently, Provincial Partitions offers five basic configurations for the PROFLEX modular units, starting with a single combined office/storage space unit in a 20-foot length, all the way up to a combined four office/storage space unit in a 40-foot length.
The company’s commitment to using steel is consistent with its corporate mandate to provide “green” building innovations for its customers. Steel is 100 per cent recyclable, making PROFLEX a sustainable building method that uses environmentally responsible, repurposed and recyclable products.
