A pallet is a structural base used to hold, store or transport commercial cargo, products or freight.
Also known as a skid, a pallet is used to conveniently pile and handle items; as a stackable carrier of commodities, a pallet keep items stable because of its flat surface that provides support for heavy items.
Forklifts, hoists and front loaders move and lift pallets for easy storing or transporting of goods within a warehouse or stockroom. The standard size of pallet is 40” x 48” with a weight of approximately 38 pounds, which can hold a fixed load of more than 12,000 pounds.
Not all pallets are created equal
The standard types of pallets constructed include single face, double face non-reversible, double face fully reversible and double face four-way entry. While pallets are traditionally made from wood or plastic, trending in pallet industry circles is manufacturing pallets using aluminum as the base material.
