HOLZ devised these pressure piping expansion joints by studying the relationship between the joint’s pressure capability and the media temperature, along with concurrent movements and spring rates. By using polyester tire cord and modified arch construction, the company created a joint with better results than those of older designs.
Series 320 joints are recommended for high flow velocity and high-abrasion conditions. They offer more strength, flexibility, and safety than standard hand-built expansion joints do, as well as better movement capabilities that solve piping-movement challenges without needing long, expensive multi-arch products. They are available from NISCO in a filled or double-filled arch that eliminates flow turbulence and the collection of suspended solids. Other notable features include axial extensions and compression, lateral deflection, and angular movement. Inner diameters range from ten to 96 inches, and both high- and low-pressure versions are available for applications with varied pressure or vacuum.
These pressure piping expansion joints are an ideal choice for such applications as chemicals, petroleum, sewage, sludge, slurry, wastewater, and other gaseous and abrasive media. Their unique open-arch construction consists of three main components:
- Tube. The extra-thick elastomeric tube helps the joint to withstand harsh applications. Users can compound the tube elastomer for a wide range of service conditions.
- Body. The polyester/elastomer reinforcement plies are completely bonded within the tube and cover materials for the highest joint integrity possible, with high tensile steel body rings held in place by an exclusive ring-enveloper system.
- Cover. Body materials are protected from external conditions by a cover elastomer, which is available in a broad range of styles to suit most applications.
