The next generation of Loctite gasket and thread sealants, now available from Henkel, are designed to increase reliability and improve performance. The new formulation offers many advantages over the alternative options.
The Loctite 518 Gasket Sealant gives users a reliable, leak-proof seal with excellent chemical and blowout resistance, increasing reliability and helping to avoid unscheduled and costly downtime and equipment failure. The new formulation offers improved performance, with greater tolerance of surface contaminants for a more consistent cure, and better flexibility for thinner, lighter weight flange designs. This better gap cure seals flanges with reduced machining tolerances.
Made from flexible, high-strength anaerobic gasketing material, the sealant is designed for use on rigid iron, aluminum and steel flanged mating surfaces. It fills gaps up to 0.25 millimetres and forms a flexible, chemical-resistant seal that will not tear or decay. Plus, it is easy to remove, even after extended service.
When compared to cut gaskets, Loctite 518 is a more cost-efficient solution. It reduces inventory costs because there is no need to carry a large inventory of cut gaskets, and it helps to reduce process costs by eliminating manual assembly of conventional gaskets. In addition, the gasket sealant resists high pressure when fully cured.
Henkel has also introduced two innovative formulations for its Loctite 567 general-purpose instant thread sealant for taper/taper threads, and its Loctite 577 medium-strength, general-purpose thread sealant for straight/straight and taper/straight threads. The result is improved performance under harsh operating conditions, with no drips, leaks or unscheduled downtime. The sealants offer greater oil tolerance for a more consistent cure, and improved performance on inactive metals without an activator, which simplifies application. The sealants can operate in higher temperatures without leaks, as Loctite 567 can withstand temperatures up to 250 degrees C, while Loctite 577 can withstand temperatures up to 180 degrees C.
When compared to tapes and putties, these thread sealants do not shrink, crack, creep or shred, and they resist vibration and shock loads, and seal to burst strength of most piping systems. Plus, the sealants prevent galling and corrosion, which eliminates seized assemblies.
