Key sections of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (BPVC) have often been considered essential reading for the electrical power, petrochemical, nuclear and transportation industries. The newest edition of the code is now available for purchase through the CSA Group, and includes updates based on industry input.
Since it was launched in 1914, the ASME BPVC has established rules of safety governing the design, fabrication and inspection of boilers and pressure vessels, and nuclear power plant components. It has been adopted, in whole or in part, by all Canadian provinces, all 50 U.S. states, numerous American municipalities and territories, and in more than 100 nations around the world.
The 2015 edition
In response to industry feedback, the 2015 ASME BPVC begins a new bi-annual cycle. Updates will now be made to the code every six months, which will considerably enhance certificate holders’ ability to comply with the code by eliminating addenda and reducing the changes that will be required in manuals between updates. Errata, Interpretations and Code Cases will continue to be updated regularly, in between new releases of the code.
The BPVC is kept current by a group of more than 1,000 technical experts, all volunteers. The group meets regularly to consider requests for interpretations, revisions and to develop new rules. In formulating its rules and establishing maximum design and operating pressures, the committee considers the evidence of experience, as well as technological advances such as materials, construction, methods of fabrication, inspection, certification and overpressure protection.
The 2015 BPVC covers requirements for:
- Power boilers and heating boilers;
- Pressure vessels;
- Construction of nuclear facility components;
- Fibre-reinforced plastic pressure vessels; and
- Rules of in-service inspection of nuclear power plant components.
The 2015 BPVC is available in a complete package, or individual units can be purchased separately. Brokerage fees and duties are also included in the purchase price on CSA Group’s store.
