The Megger BVM is a device for battery voltage measurement. It is often used for testing the capacity of large battery banks in industrial applications.
Some of the applications the BVM is used for include testing battery banks in telecom facilities, electrical power substations and computer data centre UPS systems. It is capable of being used with load devices such as the TORKEL to perform automated battery bank testing to the IEC method and in accordance with NERC/FERC requirements.
The features of the device include:
- easy setup;
- broad voltage range;
- high accuracy and stability for the precise collection of data;
- automation of the battery voltage measurements during capacity testing;
- can be integrated with TORKEL Win and PowerDB Lite test data management software; and
- capable of being set up in a “daisy-chain” of up to 120 units.
A dolphin clip is provided with the device, and it is easy to remove and exchange with various clamps and extension cables to meet any battery connection requirement.
When daisy-chaining multiple BVM units to test a large battery bank, a single cable is used to connect the first BVM in the chain to a power and signal connector. A data acquisition device, such as a laptop, is connected to the power and signal connector via Ethernet cable. The final dolphin clip in the chain is connected to the positive battery pole of the final battery.
Because each BVM unit is identical, they can be connected in any battery test position. This ensures maximum flexibility and interchangeability when setting up a daisy-chain. The BVM has an auto discovery feature that allows the host device to determine how many batteries are under test. The host unit will also assign sequential identification for each BVM in the chain.
