The Megger TDR900 is a hand-held instrument that uses Time Domain Reflectometry to measure cable lengths and determine the distance to an open or a short. It offers a range of capabilities and advanced features that are normally only found in far more expensive instruments.
The device can measure lengths ranging from five metres (15 feet) to three kilometres (10,000 feet). The minimum resolution is 50 centimetres (20 inches).
The TDR900 can be used to measure any type of cable that consists of at least two insulated metallic elements (including the cable’s sheath or shield). The device has an internal library of 39 standard cable types, and can automatically match the output impedance to fit the application. The impedance can be set to 25, 50, 75, 100, 125 or 150 ohms, which allows testing of cables for power, telephony, CATV and LAN systems.
Propagation velocity value can also be easily adjusted to closely match the cable under testing and ensure the distance measurement is as accurate as possible. The TDR900 can provide distance measurement in metric or imperial units.
The device features a rugged enclosure made from durable ABS. The enclosure seals out dust and is weatherproof to IP 42. The device’s interface is user friendly, and the measurements are easy to read due to the extra large, high resolution LCD screen with backlight.
A soft carrying case and an alligator clip adapter are supplied with the unit. For power, the TDR900 uses four AA batteries.
