The City of Sault Ste. Marie, located 700 kilometres northwest of Toronto, needed to replace a number of sections of water main throughout its water distribution system. This involved installing several large diameter valves along various sections of the main. The City’s Waterworks Engineering Department wanted to make sure that these newly installed valves were well protected from corrosion, so it turned to Denso North America for its Petrolatum Tape System. The new valves and accompanying pipe sections were coated with Denso Paste, profiled with Denso Profiling Mastic and wrapped with Denso LT Tape above grade. The assemblies were then lowered and connected in the trench. This long-term approach to corrosion prevention using the Denso Petrolatum System will ensure the City’s water distribution system stays protected for many years to come.
Another example comes from southern Ontario. The Sun-Canadian Pipelines, a Suncor Energy and Shell Canada joint venture, transports and delivers refined petroleum products throughout southern Ontario. When the pipelines required rehabilitation, the Denso Petrolatum System was the ideal solution. This project involved the sandblasting of all remaining epoxy coating on each valve and the application of the Denso Petrolatum System, which includes Denso Petrolatum Paste, Profiling Mastic and LT Petrolatum Tape. The result: the pipelines got long-term protection free of continuous, expensive maintenance.
The Denso Petrolatum System offers many advantages. It is easy to apply above or below ground, and no training is required. It conforms to irregular shapes, even on cold or wet surfaces, and offers UV resistance.
