Denso petrolatum tape has been around for more than 80 years with little change. It remains a great option for protection against corrosion of wet or dry pipes, flanges and valves, and its uses are constantly being diversified.
A growing number of communities in Ontario, for example, are using the tape to wrap manhole chambers.
A growing issue
A number of communities in Ontario are experiencing the same problem — water infiltration into their manhole chambers, culverts and catch basins. These are designed to hold or transport water, but often water is able to enter from cracks and failed joints, causing erosion of the under layer of roads, highways and city streets. This results in potholes, traffic delays, safety concerns and huge repair bills.
Denso tape seemed like the perfect solution for this growing problem. The city of Barrie is now using the company’s 12-inch Petrolatum LT Tape to wrap the exterior of its manhole chambers when exposed for rehabilitation. And it’s not the only one. Other municipalities are catching on.
“We are now tasked with spreading the word of yet another way Denso petrolatum tape can protect the infrastructures of our communities,” the company says.
Denso LT tape was the ideal solution because it is flexible and able to withstand movement, pressure, vibration and temperature fluctuations. Designed to be applied at cooler temperatures, the tape requires minimal surface preparation and no curing time. Another bonus: it is far less expensive than more complicated alternatives.
The tape provides long-term corrosion protection to pipes, flanges, valves and related surfaces, and its potential applications are endless.
