Engineered Lifting Systems & Equipment (ELS) has a proven track record for helping companies realize improvements in ergonomics and productivity. Its technical expertise and top quality products are a winning combination when it comes to helping customers achieve the results they’re looking for.
Case in point
Operators at a repair service centre that refurbishes natural gas meters were tasked with manually lifting, transferring and maintaining gas meters of varying shapes weighing up to 225 pounds. The process often needed two operators for the material handling transfer, and another to work on the gas meters. The company was looking for a better way to handle the meters during the repair and refurbishing processes; a solution that addressed the ergonomic problems of over reaching and heavy lifting. It turned to ELS for help.
Though tilters, conveyors, dollies and scissor tables were explored as possible solutions, the team concluded that implementing these options would only add to the congested areas, and wouldn’t free up an operator. In the end, ELS supplied an integrated lifting system, which included a free-standing workstation jib crane with a G-Force intelligent lifting device. The G-Force integrates with a pneumatic end effector, which grips the gas meter’s mounting plate. Additionally, a swiveling stand was designed for meter placement during repainting.
Thanks to ELS’ solution, a single operator can now repair and refurbish all gas meters, and place them onto a proper work surface for painting. The result: the process is now safer and more efficient.
