Engineered Lifting Systems & Equipment (ELS) is no stranger to difficult projects. The company is known for tackling challenging applications with great success. Its team of in-house engineers has the expertise to design, manufacture and install custom lifting solutions for the most challenging jobs.
Case in point
Operators on a packaging assembly line were tasked with manually palletizing plastic strapped sleeves of 125 egg cartons that weighed 35 pounds. The physical demands of building multi-layered pallets to a five-foot height were difficult because of the delicate nature of the product, and because the reach required was beyond recommended limits.
The company was installing a new assembly line, and needed a lifting solution to address this problem. It first considered a floor-embedded lift table, but this option was quickly dismissed because it did not address the whole application.
Instead, the company selected a custom lifting system from ELS. This system consists of a Gorbel workstation jib crane with a pneumatic air balancer mounted on a 12-foot boom, and a pneumatic gripper-style lift assist end effector. Two fixed and two moving paddles on the lift assist are used to clamp the sleeve, while the balancer and jib provide the overhead lift. Rotation stops control the radial lifting coverage of the jib crane for the palletizing work area. The air balancer’s 80-inch vertical travel features infinite variable speed control with integrated controls mounted onto the lift assist handle.
Thanks to the ELS custom solution, the customer’s palletizing process is now more efficient and ergonomically friendly.
