Not every load can be lifted by a standard lifting device. In some cases, a custom-designed lifting solution will save both time and money.
Case in point
A commercial and industrial structural steel fabrication company working on a high-rise condominium expansion in downtown Toronto was in need of a lifting solution. The company was tasked with expanding the building from 18 to 55 storeys, and required a solution to safely and efficiently remove the building's old exoskeleton concrete wall. Specifically, the company wanted a custom jig apparatus to mount on the hook of a tower crane. Safety was crucial on the project because of the high pedestrian traffic around the building.
Engineered Lifting Systems & Equipment Inc. (ELS) designed and manufactured two custom jigs for the company — one to engage with flat wall sections and another for corner sections. These below-the-crane-hook devices featured extended brackets for securing the load, and an adjustable centre of gravity device to accommodate an unloaded and loaded condition. The devices were used by workers to lift wall sections and lower them safely to ground level.
The company was very pleased with how safe and reliable the jig devices were. They performed safe lifting operations and, in the end, saved both time and money.
