York Fluid Controls is a respected supplier of industrial pump products, including air-operated double-diaphragm (AODD) pumps by Sandpiper. This manufacturer produces several designs of containment pumps, which are the only complete line of AODD pumps that feature superior liquid spill containment – which protects not only the pumps, but also workers and the environment.
Part of Sandpiper’s Signature Series of high-quality pumps, these containment pumps are ideal for highly corrosive and hazardous chemical fluid requirements.
No hazards, cleanup, or downtime
With a standard AODD pump, breaches of the pumping diaphragm causes liquid to enter the air-distribution system and escape into the environment through the muffler, which requires immediate maintenance. But when the driver diaphragm is breached in a Sandpiper spill-containment pump, the liquid enters a containment chamber, causing visual indicator sight tubes to alert the user.
The containment enables the pump to continue operating without interruption until maintenance is scheduled. As a result, there are no safety or environmental hazards, no costly cleanup or extra maintenance, no loss of system fluids, no unnecessary downtime, and product or process contamination from the air supply.
Each Sandpiper containment-duty pump includes an additional driver diaphragm. The containment chamber is in the space between the diaphragms, void of air and full of a system-compatible fluid. This locks the two diaphragms together. Upon breach of the driver diaphragm, the system fluid enters the chamber, enabling the indicator to alert users. The system fluid never escapes to the environment.
York Fluid Controls offers several options for Sandpiper containment pumps. The ST25 and ST40 metallic pumps each can handle up to 6.3 millimetres (mm) of solids and a maximum pressure of 125 pounds per square inch (psi). There are also four non-metallic versions – the S1F, S15, S20, and S30 – each with a maximum pressure of 100 psi; solids handling ranges from 6.3 to 18 mm, with maximum flow going from 201 to 901 litres per minute and displacement from 0.72 to 3.41 litres.
Sandpiper recommended these pumps for pharmaceuticals, food, cosmetics, perfumes, blood, alcohol, cyanotic-based paints, precious-metal-based fluids, and printer ink.
