Companies across the globe turn to Denso North America for their corrosion prevention and sealing needs because of its proven track record of solving problems in challenging environments across the globe. A large oil and gas company in South Texas recently had a problem with internal tank corrosion after the pre-existing lining had failed due to old age. Denso had the solution.
The company selected Archco 450 as the tank lining coating because of Denso’s reputation for quality products and field service. It was also selected for the many benefits it provides, including its fast dry and set time; it cures under cool and damp climates; and the fact that it has good flexibility and impact resistance, as well as excellent chemical resistance and tough abrasion resistance. Archco 450 is also glass flake reinforced and offers excellent adhesion.
The project consisted of two open top/internal floater tanks with the sidewalls coated with Archco 400 high solids epoxy primer and then over coated with Archco 450, 100 per cent solids epoxy, glass-flaked filled lining. All coatings were sprayed with a 68:1 single leg airless unit. For this application, the Archco 450 sprayed 25 to 30 ml in one coat.
The coating was applied prior to the insulation of a new internal floating roof. The Archco 450 will give the tank the chemical resistance it needs, plus the added benefit of the glass-flaked filled lining to withstand the abrasion of the floating roof seal, rubbing up and down, as the tank is filled and emptied. The tank floor linings will be installed after the insulation of the floating roof using the Archco 450. The owners can expect 25-plus years of internal corrosion protection from the Denso Archco Lining System.
Archco 450 offers corrosion protection for steel tanks and internal pipes in a variety of industries. The coating will protect tanks and piping against crude oil, seawater, wastewater, fuels, solvents, lubricants and acid. To learn more, contact Denso North America.
