The Vibra Finish polish process involves two major steps: pre-polishing, and then polishing. Preparation is just as important as the actual finishing action.

Getting a high luster

To achieve the highest luster, the user must prepare the material properly. For polishing, Vibra Finish discourages deburring or running parts in ceramic media, as it discolours the parts and will not result in an optimal finish. Instead, run parts in synthetic media and use a Vibra-Glo compound or soap – preferably 1.5 ounces per gallon of water and applied in a drip-in, drip-out system. Always change the compound with each batch rather than recirculating it. After running the parts for the desired time, rinse them in a blend of compound and water (six ounces of compound per gallon) and use a corn-cob dryer to dry them.

Next comes polishing. This is best done with corn-cob or porcelain media; a very high luster often results from newly treated corn-cob media. Porcelain media has a base not unlike ceramic media, but with no abrasive, and is available in polishing formula in small sizes. Vibra Finish recommends porcelain media in shapes and sizes with the -P formulation.

For top results, change the compound at the same time as the media. Adding a heat lamp, heater, or cover onto the vibratory machine can improve results.

It is also smart to choose a finishing machine with friction that produces the right amount of heat. A centrifugal barrel or disc machine is the best choice, especially after using a vibratory machine in a two-step process. A tumbling barrel is the slowest and least efficient, but is recommended for some delicate parts and works equally well with dry or wet processes.
