Can tape really replace mechanical fasteners? It can if it’s 3M’s RP family of VHB Tapes. This line of acrylic foam tape is a proven high-strength alternative to screws, rivets, welds and other forms of mechanical fasteners.
How it works
While a screw or a rivet can join two substrates at a single point, specialty bonding tape like 3M’s RP family of VHB Tapes, with its all-acrylic construction, permanently adheres one substrate to another, while spreading the stress load across the entire length of the joint. Once substrates are joined by this high-strength bonding tape, a virtually indestructible “weld” is created, the company explains.
Extraordinary strength and versatility
RP stands for “Right Product, Right Performance, Right Price,” an acronym fitting for a cost-efficient product that 3M says permanently bonds to a variety of surfaces, including glass, metal, many plastics, composites, sealed wood and painted surfaces. The tape has extraordinary strength, conformability and versatility, and at the same time seals many substrates. This fast and easy process offers increased productivity, long-term durability and improved appearance. In addition, its composition allows it to resist UV and weather damage, making it a great solution for outdoor applications.
3M’s RP family of VHB Tapes is available in Canada from Adheco, the bonding and surface finishing specialists. Adheco carries the entire line, and can cut it to any width the customer needs, meeting each unique requirement. Standard thicknesses range from 0.4 mm to 1.55 mm.
Leading provider of adhesives
In addition to 3M’s RP family of VHB Tapes, Adheco carries a wide range of tapes from many leading manufacturers. To learn about its entire lineup, and the other suppliers it works with, contact Adheco.
