Metal Expansion Joints
Northern Industrial Supply Co. (NISCO) can provide a wide variety of metal expansion joints to suit the most demanding temperature and pressure conditions. These expansion joints are often used for applications that involve extreme temperature ranges. In fact, our metal expansion joints are suitable for use in temperature ranges from -251 to 982 degrees C (-420 to 1800 degrees F), and pressures up to 1,000 psi. All of our expansion joints are designed to suit the unique conditions of the application including movement, pressure, temperature, space constraints, corrosive environments, and more.
Metal expansion joints
The different types of metal expansion joints available include single bellow, universal, and pressure balanced varieties.
- Single bellow joints are the simplest type. They comply with EJMA standards, are available with flanged or welded pipe ends, and can compensate for pipe movement.
- Universal expansion joints are designed to offer greater lateral movement than single bellow styles.
- External pressurized expansion joints enable higher numbers of convolutions to be used without sacrificing bellows stability.
- Pressure balanced expansion joints can address pressure thrust while accommodating axial/lateral movements. This is possible due to the addition of equalizing bellows that cancel opposing forces induced by pressure.

While the strength of metal expansion joints is essential for some applications, these joints have the disadvantage of reduced spring rates combined with thrust forces. We can offer expertise in determining whether metallic or rubber expansion joints are best suited to a particular application.
NISCO has been supplying high quality heating, ventilation, and air conditioning equipment since 1988. We have a core team of well-experienced, knowledgeable, and hard-working professionals. This ensures we can provide our customers with extensive support and accurate information.
Some of the applications metallic expansion joints are often used for include power generation, pressure vessel manufacturing, desalination plants, oil refineries, petrochemical industry, and waste water treatment.
