Bellows Expansion Joints
Bellows expansion joints to suit any requirement are available from Northern Industrial Supply Co. (NISCO). We can supply standard and custom bellows expansion joints, and they are available in many styles including single bellows, universal, pressure balanced, and externally pressurized. They are engineered to provide exceptional performance and can be designed to suit the unique conditions of the installation. Our metal expansion joints are used to handle the most demanding requirements such as pressures up to 1,000 psi, and temperatures up to 982 degrees C (1800 degrees F). In addition to these metallic joints, we can supply models in a variety of elastomers.
Bellows expansion joints
Our single bellows models are the most fundamental type of metal expansion joints. They have a single bellows, which is the flex element, usually welded to flanged or pipe ends. This single bellows design can compensate for movement of the connected pipe section.
Also available are universal expansion joints that have two bellows which are connected with a common center spool. When compared to single bellows joints, this design can accommodate greater lateral movements.
In addition, we offer externally pressurized expansion joints. In this design, an external pressure chamber is used so line pressure acts on the bellows’ external surface. This enables more convolutions to be used to handle large axial movements, while maintaining stability.
Lastly, pressure balanced expansion joints are available that incorporate an equalizing bellows that is connected to the flow bellows in a way that cancels opposing forces caused by pressure. Contact us for more information on the different types of expansion joints we can offer.
