At Bohne Spring Industries Ltd. we have been in the spring industry for over seventy years, and we take great pride in our wide range of quality goods and services, short lead times, 100% traceability and competitive pricing. In addition to providing austempering and design engineering services, we manufacture precision springs, wire, strip forms, and metal stampings. We are committed to cultivating long-term, mutually beneficial partnerships with our customers, and customer satisfaction is our top priority. Registered to ISO 9001:2008 & TS 16949:2009, we always aim to develop our quality products with the best technology.
Austempering is an isothermal heat treatment applied to ferrous metals, primarily steel and iron. This treatment produces baintite structures in steel and ausferrite structures in iron that improves mechanical properties or reduces distortion. Our austempering lines harden and temper spring steel in the range of HRC 42-47.
Austempering Industrial Activities
We serve customers working in a wide variety of market sectors, including the automotive, aerospace, defense, consumer goods and telecommunications industries.
In the austempering process, the metal in question is heated to a "red heat" (486-981ºC) in a controlled atmosphere and then quenched in a molten salt bath (232-399ºC). This produces baintite structures in steel and ausferrite structures in iron. The production of these structures takes place over a longer period of time, which cools the metal at an even rate. This minimizes the likelihood of distortion and micro-cracks that, in the long term, weaken the metal. Our special order department will work with you to develop custom orders, prototypes and R&D initiatives. Give us a call, and we'll help put a "spring" in your step!
