The CASI automatic box cutting unit can process random cartons at a rate of up to 450 cartons per hour.

Wecon has been named the sole reseller for Cornerstone Automation’s CASI system applications in Canada.

One of the exciting system applications now offered through Wecon is split-case operation with CASI’s fully programmable, automated case opening system — IBOD-1. Workers often use knives to open cartons to prepare the SKUs for temporary storage on a shelf or in a flow rack. This can lead to damaged product or injury from allowing the worker to handle the sharp knife. The CASI automatic box cutting unit overcomes all of these critical issues in a safe, self-contained unit.

Here’s how it works: The robot within IBOD-1 automatically positions the case, recognizing its size, and cuts around the four sides just below the top of the carton. The robot can be programmed to cut both horizontally and vertically to suit customer-specific requirements. The user also sets the cut depth.

The box cutting unit is fed by conveyors that will automatically index the carton into the cutting position and discharge the carton when the cut is complete. In very busy applications, two parallel units can be programmed to cut the cartons.

The CASI automatic box cutting unit can process random cartons at a rate of up to 450 cartons per hour. However, actual case cutting speeds will depend on box size, cut complexity and other variables. The system also has the capability to run random box dimensions, handling sizes up to 30 inches by 24 inches by 20 inches.
