The MTO250 features remote computer control, which gives customers improved efficiency in testing, and allows them to easily produce test reports.

Megger has expanded its family of winding resistance testers with the addition of the MTO250 test set. This latest unit is able to output up to 50 amps of test current with 50-volt compliance voltage, while maintaining the same size and weight as previous models. In addition, users can test large transformers 10 times faster than traditional 10-amp models.

The enhancements don’t stop there. The MTO250 features remote computer control, which gives customers improved efficiency in testing, and allows them to easily produce test reports. In addition, the company has also added the ability to automate “Heat Run” testing via software, decreasing the critical test time needed to perform this test.

Megger has also enhanced its demagnetization capability. Users are now able to get transformers to a closer state of balance compared to previous models.

“While improving our capability, we have reduced our demagnetization time,” the company explains on its website. “This will give customers more confidence in placing their transformers back into service without false trips due to magnetized transformer cores.”

Not only does this new unit provide higher test current in winding resistance testing, without increasing weight and reducing portability, but it also offers a simplified interface to better guide users through the long Load Tap Changer (OLTC) test process. According to Megger, this is done through improvements in the front panel where stored results are now displayed. Operators are now able to view progress when testing multiple results.

Megger is hosting a webinar on Friday, October 16 at 10 am (Central Time) dedicated to improvements in transformer winding resistance testing. The webinar will highlight modern diagnostic techniques used to perform winding resistance testing, how to determine the proper state of a transformer and its associated tap changers, and tips and tricks on test methods and results reporting.
