The SGD compact string pot is available from Durham Instruments.

Measurement Specialties’ miniature string potentiometers, also called string pots, are position feedback sensors known for their high performance and compact size. Ideal for applications where space is tight, these sensors are available with a variety of output signals and measurement ranges, and come with flexible mounting options.

The company offers a line of compact string pots with various features. The offerings include:

  • SGD Compact String Pot: Designed for IP67 (wet) environments, the SGD compact string pot has a rugged polycarbonate body and an extremely durable spring-loaded stainless steel measuring cable. It provides a user-selectable 4-20mA or 0-10VDC absolute linear position signal over an 80- or 120-inch full stroke range option, and features user-friendly signal selection — simply connect the appropriate pins on the included connector or select the proper wires in the optional cordset. In addition, the mounting bracket allows the customer to mount the sensor in just about any direction.
  • SG1 Compact String Pot: The SG1 uses a precision high-cycle plastic hybrid potentiometer and an extremely durable spring-loaded stainless steel measuring cable to provide an accurate position feedback signal over the entire stroke — up to 10 feet. Constructed with a rugged polycarbonate body, this model is available in an 80- or 120-inch stroke range, and offers optional IP67 protection for wet or outdoor installations. With it’s slim design and versatile mounting bracket, the SG1 can fit into the tightest spaces.

These and other miniature string potentiometers from Measurement Specialties are available in Canada from Durham Instruments, a Pickering, Ont.-based distributor of high-quality electronic instrumentation and data acquisition and control systems.
