Lapp's ÖLFLEX FD 855 P is designed for extreme mechanical stresses due to tighter bend radius for continuous flexing.

A leading manufacturer of aerial devices, digger derricks and specialty equipment for the electric utility, telecommunications and tree care industries required cables for the boom lift on its truck. Previously, rubber-jacketed cables did not hold up over time in the outdoor conditions. And the rubber coil cord became stretched out with a lot of usage. The company needed cables that would withstand colder temperatures of -25 to -40, and still be flexible for movement and flexing in the boom. The space installation in the boom is tight, so a smaller cable with a tighter bend radius was also required. 

The manufacturer turned to Lapp for the solution — its ÖLFLEX 855 P, which was installed along the articulating arms of the lift for the control wiring, as well as the Unitronic Spiral cable for the remote handheld controls in the basket on top of the boom. In both cases, the cables are exposed to cold outdoor temperatures. 

ÖLFLEX FD 855 P is designed for extreme mechanical stresses due to tighter bend radius for continuous flexing. The materials used are halogen-free and environmentally friendly. Insulation and jacketing materials are mechanically and chemically resistant to many environments, while the polyurethane jacket is flame retardant. 

Unitronic Spiral is a shielded, multi-conductor signal and data cable designed to extend to four times the retracted length. 

With TPE insulation and PUR jacket, the newly installed cables are expected to last longer, resulting in savings for the manufacturer.
