IPEX developed the Xirtec140 and Corzan systems to meet industry demands for a complete pipe, valves and fittings (PVF) package that is designed, produced and backed by a single manufacturer — IPEX.

Xirtec140 pipe is made of PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride), the most frequently specified of all thermoplastic piping materials. PVC is characterized by distinctive physical properties and its resistance to corrosion and chemical attack by acids, alkalis, salt solutions and many other chemicals. It is attacked, however, by polar solvents such as ketones and aromatics. Of the various types and grades of PVC used in plastic piping, Type 1, Grade 1 PVC (Cell Classification 12454) conforming to ASTM D1784, is the most common. The maximum service temperature for PVC is 60 degrees C, under pressure. PVC for drainage applications is also capable of handling near boiling temperatures for intermittent flow conditions. With a hydrostatic design basis of 4000 psi at 23 degrees C and a design stress of 2,000 psi at 23 degrees C, PVC has the highest long-term hydrostatic strength of any other major thermoplastic material used for piping.

Corzan pipe is made of CPVC (Chlorinated Polyvinyl Chloride), which conforms to ASTM D1784 and has physical properties at 23 degrees C, similar to those of PVC. However, its chemical resistance is generally better than that of PVC. The design stress of CPVC is also 2,000 psi at 23 degrees C. The maximum service temperature is 93 degrees C under pressure, with occasional exposure to boiling water (100 degrees C). CPVC has proven to be an excellent piping material for hot corrosive liquids, hot and cold water distribution and similar applications above the temperature range of PVC.

These systems are engineered and manufactured to the company’s strict quality, performance and dimensional standards and, therefore, eliminate the problems inherent in purchasing and installing piping system components manufactured by several different companies.
