The INGVAR test system consists of two portable units.

Megger offers a powerful test system for testing circuit breaker and protective relay equipment: the INGVAR. This advanced primary current injection test system can also be used to test the turns ratio of current transformers or other applications requiring high variable currents. The INGVAR offers a number of features, including portability, simplicity and an advanced control unit.

Powerful testing

This primary current injection test system simplifies all types of test applications, from switchgear and CT commissioning to ground grid and circuit breakers testing. It is capable of providing an output current up to 5,000 amps. One unique feature is the test system’s I/30 function. This enables the current to be pre-set using low current, preventing test sample heating and eliminating corruption of the result.

The INGVAR test system also features portability. The system is made up of two units (a control unit and a current unit) that weigh about 20 kilograms (44 pounds) each, and can be quickly assembled and connected.

Additional features

Another feature is the INGVAR’s advanced control unit. It has a measurement section that displays time, turns ratio, voltage and current. The unit also has a second measurement channel for testing an additional current or voltage. Information, including power, impedance, power factor, phase angle and more, is calculated and shown in the display. The current and voltage measurements can be displayed as percentages of nominal value.

The control unit also includes a fast-acting hold function. This function freezes short-duration readings on the display when injection is stopped, the test object interrupts the current, or the voltage or contact signal arrives at the stop input.

The INGVAR can be used for additional applications such as polarity testing, heat runs, automatic reclosers and more. For more information, visit the Megger website.
