Since the coating system exceeded the life of the cooling tower, the engineers specified that all pipes, valves, fittings and structural steel be protected with the Denso Petrolatum Tape System.

Denso North America is a leader in corrosion prevention and sealing technology. The company’s Denso tape was developed more than 80 years ago for the long-term protection of buried steel pipelines against corrosion.

Long-term protection is the goal, and the company has a long list of successful case histories that demonstrate the quality of Denso tape. Take the American General building in Houston, Texas, for example.

In 1977, American General applied the Denso Petrolatum System to protect its cooling tower framework and piping. After years of service, the cooling towers had to be replaced. This provided the perfect opportunity to inspect Denso’s Petrolatum Tape System. The petrolatum tape coating had been in service for more than 37 years in a wet/humid corrosive environment. It was found after removing the tape that the steel was in perfect condition with no corrosion. Since the coating system exceeded the life of the cooling tower, the engineers specified that all pipes, valves, fittings and structural steel be protected with the Denso Petrolatum Tape System. This particular application uses Densyl Tape, a non-woven synthetic fabric tape fully impregnated with a neutral petrolatum compound; Denso Hi-Tack Tape, a non-woven synthetic fabric tape fully impregnated with a special blend of adhesive compound based on petrolatum polymers; and Denso Paste.

High-performance petrolatum tape products provide above and below ground and underwater protection to pipelines, fittings, tank bases, steel structures and more. Denso’s petrolatum tape wrap systems can easily be applied by hand to most surfaces in arctic and tropical temperature environments. Benefits of the system include long-term protection, easy application with no training required, UV resistance, and the ability to conform to irregular shapes.

Denso's anti-corrosion and sealing products have a proven track record of solving problems in challenging environments. The company’s products and systems are backed by a team of qualified professionals who provide technical support and on-site guidance.
