This two-ton Mentor Bridge Crane with a 46-foot span is an ELS custom solution.

Engineered Lifting Systems & Equipment (ELS) has the capability to customize cranes to suit any application, no matter how difficult the job seems. Whether it calls for a high-capacity, long-span or low-profile crane, or one with maximum hook height, a pivoting workstation or a rotating lower beam, the company’s skilled staff can handle the challenge.

Finding the right solution

One customer, a company specializing in powertrain products, required a hoisting solution for its manufacturing and maintenance facility. This particular application required a maximum hook coverage relative to the area, but this coverage was not offered by standard bridge or workstation cranes. In addition, the solution could not have crane support columns because the floor area needed to be as unobstructed as possible. The company turned to ELS for a custom solution — a two-ton Mentor Bridge Crane with a 46-foot span. The bridge beam was notched to clear the roof trusses and offset on end trucks so that the bridge beam and hoist — a Stahl Electric Chain Hoist — could be placed as close to the wall as possible.

Experts in customization

When ELS takes on a customization project, it can handle all aspects of the project, from initial research and analysis to installation. Its expert staff will first analyze the existing process and the customer’s desired outcome, and then research several solutions before developing a proposal that highlights suggested equipment, sequence of operation and pricing. Once this has been approved and a purchase order signed, the design phase begins and approvals are obtained. Then, certified welders and licensed millwrights fabricate the crane. Finally, the unit is installed by licensed millwrights and ELS's trained installation crew with WSIB certification. All design solutions are certified by on-staff professional engineers to comply with applicable regulatory codes and established engineering standards for mechanical, electrical and structural elements.
