Cords Canada supplies solid balls in a variety of materials.

Precision-ground solid balls made by Spheric Trafalgar are available from Cords Canada. These solid balls can be supplied in high performance materials such as tungsten carbide and silicon nitride. Both materials offer their own advantages. For instance, tungsten carbide balls are extremely hard, while silicon nitride balls offer high resistance to corrosion and abrasion. These solid balls are used for a wide range of applications.

Applications and advantages

Tungsten carbide balls are often used in check valves, ball screws, flow meters, gauges and checking instruments. As tungsten carbide was developed for cutting tools, it offers extreme hardness and is three times more rigid than steel. In addition, balls made from this material offer high resistance to wear, and can withstand significant shocks and impacts.

Silicon nitride balls are found in machining tools, spindle motors, electric motors, dentist drills, fuel injection systems, chemical plant equipment and more. In fact, only balls and rollers made from this high performance ceramic material are approved for use in the space shuttle. These balls provide excellent resistance to abrasion and corrosion, even when subjected to harsh chemicals and environments.

Precision manufacturing

Spheric Trafalgar has been in business since 1972, and is a global leader in balls and ball-related products. The manufacturer offers more than 50,000 different line items. The company has the capability to offer exceptional precision, as it can create balls and ball-related products that meet ISO 3290 Grade 3 standards. That means they have diameters accurate to 30 millionths of an inch, and are spherical to within three millionths of an inch.

More information

Cords Canada can also supply solid balls in materials such as nylon, polypropylene, Teflon and acrylic. The sizes range from .031 up to four inches in diameter, depending on the material. Custom sizes for solid balls are available. In addition to solid balls, Cords Canada carries a range of hollow balls for creating floating ball blankets to reduce heat loss and evaporation.
