Its Cam Clutch product line is no exception. These clutches are designed to ensure efficient and dependable operation in the harshest environments. 

A broad selection

Cam Clutch products transmit torque in one direction of rotation, and overrun in the opposite direction of rotation. Multiple models are available to address the many types of applications where they are most often used, from compressors, conveyors, cranes and hoists, to pumps, furnaces and a variety of machinery.

Backstop Cam Clutches, for example, are used to prevent reverse rotation of drive shafts, which may result in damage to machinery and equipment. The inner race can overrun freely in one direction of rotation, while reverse rotation is instantantly prevented by the automatic engagement of the clutch. Multiple Cam Clutch product lines are available from Tsubaki in a variety of bore sizes and torque capacities to meet each application’s needs. Typical backstop applications include conveyor systems and gear reducers.

Indexing Cam Clutch products are also available. In these applications, reciprocating motion applied to the clutch transforms into one-direction motion. A crank mechanism provides reciprocating motion to drive the cam clutch, while the clutch drives in the forward stroke and overruns on the return stroke, indexing the feeding roller forward. Three different series of Indexing Cam Clutches are available in a range of bore sizes and torque capacities.

A third type of Cam Clutch, Overrunning Cam Clutches, spin freely most of the time. Occasionally, however, they are required to lock up and drive. A typical application is a two-speed drive, where the machine is driven by either an electric motor or gear motor. When the gear motor drives at low speed, the clutch engages. When the faster electric motor drives, the clutch overruns, automatically switching between low and high speed. Like the other Cam Clutch families, these are available in a range of bore sizes and torque capacities to meet each application’s needs.
